"A people who do not cherish and promote their theatre are, if not yet dead, in the process of dying, just as theatre which does not capture the vibrancy of society, of history, the drama of its people, but is only a casino or a place to kill time."

-- About this Play's Production History

Known as 'Europe's most performed play,' THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST is a gleefully zany anti-authoritarian farce about a defiant trickster who uses a series of wacky Bugs-Bunny-esque schemes to unmask a nest of police corruption and stick it to the man in the most uproariously funny ways.

Drawing on the age-old traditions of Italy's commedia dell'arte performance techniques, this fast-paced comedy offers a whirlwind of mistaken identities, prat-falls, verbal zingers, and mental gymnastics to complement its unflinchingly revolutionary message.  It's entertainment, empowerment, and agitation all rolled into one!

Throughout the thousands of performances of THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST since it first premiered in Italy in 1970, the play has constantly been revised, updated, and re-interpreted to speak to the current events of the place and time of each rendition.  In keeping with that approach, our version is set in Manhattan in the immediate aftermath of the police attack on Occupy Wall Street just nine months ago.

Directed -- just as it was ten years ago -- by Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman*, our rendition features a wealth of Italian Renaissance comedy techniques including stylized movement choreography by Monica Karwan*, mask work coached by Jamie Lynn Nablo, and Punchinello-esque puppetry crafted by Franklin LaVoie.

As the play's enigmatic "Maniac," actor/comedian Todd Fuller heads up a cast which also features Scot Kaitanowski*, Becky Globus*, Jack Agugliaro*, Leo DiBello, and Jamie Lynn Nablo.  Set Design is by Anthony Rajewski with Lighting Design by Jayson Clark, Costume Design by Paul Stephenson*, Fight Coaching by Emily Pedersen* and Leo DiBello, Sound Design by Jamie Lynn Nablo and Videography by Bob Van Valin*.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST runs Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm from September 6th-29th, 2012.  Tickets are $20 general admission or $15 for students, seniors, and Subversive Theatre members.  For all Thursday shows (except opening), admission is pay-what-you-can.   All performances are at Subversive Theatre's regular performance venue, The Manny Fried Playhouse at 255 Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of North Buffalo's Great Arrow Building.
