"The Arts are the locale for a kind of guerilla warfare . . . they're subtle so the Establishment gambles that they won't lead to anything threatening.
But the Establishment often loses that gamble."

-Howard Zinn

"You gotta laugh.  Especially when things ain't funny."
-R.P. McMurphy

Join us as we smash through the bars and tell Nurse Ratched we will not be straight jacketed!

Subversive Theatre is excited to present one of the great subversive tales of the American Theatre.  Unlike the iconic 1975 film (which Ken Kesey refused to ever even watch because of the liberties Hollywood took with his story), Dale Wasserman's play stays much closer to Kesey's original novel and drips with Kesey's delicious spirit of rebelliousness, his defiant humor, and his jeering hatred conformity.  Time Magazine describes it as "a roar of protest against middlebrow society's Rules and the Rulers who enforce them."  The Guardian holds it up as "an attack on all forms of authority and a celebration of the free spirit."

Don't miss this extraordinary testament to the power of defiance in the most soul-crushing of places.

"Rules?  Piss on your fucking rules, Nurse Ratched!"
-Charlie Cheswick

Our rendition of ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST stars Buffalo's own Thomas LaChuisa+ (who last appeared on our Subversive stage as Eddie Carbone in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE) as "R.P. McMurphy" opposite Diane DiBernardo as the infamous "Nurse Ratched" with Artie Award-winner Victor Morales as "Chief Bromden."

The ensemble also features the acting talents of Elliot Fox, Connor Graham, Rick Lattimer*, Jack Agugliaro*, John Kennedy*, J. Tim Raymond*, Rich Kraemer, Bryan Figueroa, Shakora HP, Monica Morrisy, Michael Breen, Jamie Nablo, and Brook Goergen.

The show is directed by Subversive's Associate Producer Michael Lodick* who also serves as the set designer, with lighting by multiple Artie Award-winning designer Chris Cavanagh, sound design by John Shotwell*, costumes by Maureen Caputo*, scenic painting by artist J. Tim Raymond*, and photography by Gordon Pellegrinetti.

"They tip the world on its side and everybody loose comes rattlin' to the bottom...  Only by that time they got no innards, just some beat up gears and stuff, and all they bleed is rust."
-Chief Bromden
