For the sixth show in our 11th Season at Subversive Theatre, we're
honored to join forces with Raices Theatre Company to present one of the most powerful works of political theatre ever
written -- DEATH
AND THE MAIDEN by Chile's world renown Human Rights champion
Set in the immediate aftermath of a military junta's reign in an un-named
Latin America country, this savagely intense masterpiece tells the story of a
former political prisoner who comes face-to-face with the man she THINKS was
responsible for her rape and torture.
innocent, then he's really screwed."
How far dare she go in search of justice before she destroys herself and those
around her? How can she ever know
for certain who's really to blame? How long must the victims be the ones to "forgive and forget" as the tyrants get away with murder?
Winner of the 1992 Laurence
Olivier Award for Best New Play, this fierce three-character drama
offers no easy answers... but, instead, takes audiences on a gut-wrenchingly
beautiful journey into the hearts of both victim AND the accused victimizer to see the
world through the eyes of both rage and self-doubt.
"A person can
die from excessive doses of the truth."
