Subversive Theatre is thrilled to at long last present one of the greatest theatrical
testaments to workers and unions ever written! WAITING FOR
LEFTY is an incredibly empowering one-act drama about everyday
workers who overcome fear, ignorance, and their own corrupt union
leadership to strike for a better life. Set amidst a New York City
taxicab workers' union meeting during the plight of the Great Depression, workers
come forward to tell their personal stories of how they became involved
in the union movement . . . the results are stunning, inspiring,
heart-wrenching, and
unforgettable.
Originally produced on Broadway in 1935 by New
York City's notoriously daring Group Theatre, WAITING FOR LEFTY is a
cornerstone of Twentieth Century Protest Theatre as well as the entire
genre of Realism in the American Theatre.
Produced in collaboration with the New Phoenix
Theatre Company, our rendition of this timeless masterpiece is directed by Subversive
Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman. New
Phoenix's Executive Director Richard Lambert+ heads up a massive cast of over
twenty-five thespians that includes Victor Morales, Kate LoConti, Keith
Elkins*, Bill Schmidt*, Jennifer Linch, Jeffrey Coyle and many, many others
(for complete cast list click on the "About the Cast"

Throughout this production, Subversive Theatre
continues its tradition of "Subversation Saturdays" --
after each Saturday's performance we invite audiences to stick around
and join with members of the cast and crew for an informal discussion of
the play they've just seen. These discussions are our number one way of
getting feedback from our audiences, so we hope you'll join in!
