In tandem with Morphine Heart Productions,
Subversive Theatre sponsored the event ARTISTS AGAINST GEORGE W. -- a
four-hour- long melange of poetry, film, music, and theatrical performances
of, by, and for anyone who has a problem the big-eared buffoon who runs our
nation.
Held at the Squeaky Wheel Media Arts Center, this event was
a major success drawing a large audience and featuring presentations from the
Just Buffalo Literary Society's Spoken Word Poets, the Blue Garrote Collective
and many others.
Subversive Theatre's contribution to the evening was a
staged reading of the new anti-war play MOTHER DIS-COURAGE by our
Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman.
A deliberate twist on Bertolt Brecht's classic anti-war
drama MOTHER COURAGE, MOTHER DIS-COURAGE is an over-the-top
farce that pits Brecht against Britney Spears and George Orwell against John
Lennon in a battle for the hearts and minds of a American soldier in Iraq and
his anti-war mother.
This off-the-cuff presentation of a very raw and elemental
script that had only been completed a few hours before was received very
warmly by the standing-room-only crowd. Here's a rundown of the
adventurous actors who made this production possible: DRAMATIST
