laughed and laughed. The play is crammed with wonderful, dazzling, brilliant
lines." - The New York
play may be 20 years old but David Mamet's astringent observations on the
supremacy of commerce over art in Hollywood are still as fresh as last night's
rushes. "Speed-the-Plow" remains on-target in its sardonic skewering
of an industry run by self-confessed whores and driven by the public's
appetite for mindless escapism.” –
Wall Street in ruins and businesses of all stripes facing greater consumer
discretion, there is at least one place left where a guy or gal can safely

For the sixth show in our
2011-2012 Season, Subversive Theatre is proud to team up with Tragicom
Productions to present David Mamet’s ever-incendiary play SPEED
THE PLOW directed by Christopher Standart*, starring Kevin
Craig, Andrea Andolina, and Timothy Patrick Finnegan.
Originally presented on Broadway
in 1988 with a cast that featured Joe Mantegna, Ron Silver, and Madonna,
revived in 2008, this hard-hitting dark comedy gleefully assails the
Hollywood film industry – that “sinkhole
of slime and depravity” – graphically showing us a supposed art-form
completely corrupted by commercialism, lust, and bald-faced opportunism.
Written by Pulitzer
Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, SPEED
THE PLOW bristles with the author’s signature use of blunt,
crass, and refreshingly real dialogue amidst a fast-paced tale that will
leave you laughing uproariously at every nauseating twist and turn.
SPEED THE PLOW runs April 20th
through May 13th with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm
and Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets are $20 General Admission and $15 for student,
seniors, and Subversive Theatre members.
There will be one pay-what-you-can performance on Thursday, May 10th
at 8pm. For our Mother’s Day
performance on Sunday, May 13th: bring your mother and she’ll get
