"The Arts are the locale for a kind of guerilla warfare . . . they're subtle so the Establishment gambles that they won't lead to anything threatening.
But the Establishment often loses that gamble."

-Howard Zinn

"They tell me to 'speak truth to power.'
I don't even know what that means."

As Herr Trump ascends to the presidency, Subversive Theatre is proud to present a play about the damage that his kind of bigoted and divisive attitudes can wreak.

STOP KISS is a sharp and inventive young classic of protest theatre that inventively skips back-and-forth in time showing us both the lead up to and the aftermath of an anti-gay hate crime that changes the lives of two women forever.  Taking on the indifference of law enforcement, the disapproval of loved ones, and the grim threat of violence that the LGBTQ+ community faces on a daily basis, this quintessential Off-Broadway drama speaks truth to power with a delicate sincerity that will bring you to your knees... and bring you to your feet.

First produced at NYC's Public Theatre in 1998 in a production that starred Sandra Oh and Jessica Hecht, it is sad to say almost twenty years later that this statement play is still as sorely needed today.

"I used to be the blueberry muffin lady...
now I'm the lesbian traffic reporter
whose lover got beat up."

Directed by Subversive Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Kelly Beuth*, our rendition features the acting talents of Brittany Germano*, Jenny Gembka, John Profeta*, Justin Fiordaliso, Brian Brown, and Theresa DiMuro Wilber.  With Sound Design by the director herself, Costume Design is by resident costumier Maureen Caputo*, with props by Michelle Denton*, and Lighting Design by Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman*.

STOP KISS runs February 23rd - March 18th with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm.  All shows are in our regular performance venue The Manny Fried Playhouse at 255 Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of North Buffalo's historic Great Arrow Building.

"Something as thought provoking and ultimately
moving as 'STOP KISS' is a joy to experience."

-Star Ledger
