For our sixth annual "infringement"
Festival production, we are proud to present a wonderfully wild
re-interpretation of Bertolt Brecht's revolutionary drama
THE MOTHER.
This time around we're putting THE PEOPLE back in
PEOPLES' THEATRE with an intensely interactive production where ten actors
play all the major roles and the audience plays all the rest. THAT'S
RIGHT! In our theatre of empowerment, no one will be left passive.
YOU -- the audience -- will have the opportunity to play the soldiers, factory
workers, demonstrators, strike-breakers, and sometimes even the walls,
windows, and coat racks of this colossal story of peoples' resistance and
revolution.
Leave your inhibitions
at the door and join in the most daring, most inventive, and most
downright
fun version of Brechtian Theatre you'll ever find!
This off-beat odyssey is directed by Subversive
Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman* with
Assistant Director Bob Van Valin and stars Rebecca
Ward and Andrew Kottler amidst an ensemble that also features Lawrence
Rowswell*, John Jacoby, Colleen Neumann, Bekki Sliwa, Tim Stuff, John Kehoe,
Jason E. Robinson, and Sean Marciniak.
Bohemian found-sound musicians Patrick Cain
and Gabriel Gutierrez provide live musical accompaniment and Foley
effects for each performance with their oh-so trippy melange of inventive
instruments.
Set & Props Design for THE MOTHER are by Ashley Bobbett with Lighting Design by
John Shotwell*, and Costume Design by Laura Mooney & Paul
Stephenson. Set Painting is by Ashley Bobbett, Melissa Grosse, and
Kurt & Jeanette Schneiderman*.
Performances run from July 23rd through August 8th on
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 8pm at the Manny Fried Playhouse at 255
Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of the Great Arrow Building in North
Buffalo. Tickets are $10.00 for all shows. Reservations are NOT
available, instead admission is on a first-come-first-served basis with doors
opening promptly at 8pm.
For more information, give us a call at 716-408-0499.
Our rendition of THE
MOTHER is freely adapted by Kurt Schneiderman* from translations by Lee
Baxandall and Stephen Gooch.
Special thanks goes
out to the Buffalo Chapter of the International Action Center for their
generous loan of equipment for this production.
